Home Lighting techniques can be really simple to master and can have such a positive and dramatic effect on your living environment that you could easily ask why you hadn’t made the change earlier.
Have you ever been is some lighted spaces and just felt uncomfortable or felt yourself drawn towards the one properly lighted area of the room? Well, you’re not alone most people never really stop to think about it but have had similar feelings too.
On the contrary I’m sure you have walked into some rooms whether in someone’s home or a hotel or restaurant and felt the warmth, glow or pleasant illumination of the space and instantly felt a shift in your mood. These effects are real and when you are subjected to them for long periods of time in your home they can definitely begin to effect both mental states and outlooks.
Some of the tips you can employ are very easy and take almost no time at all to implement.
One top tip is that you should look for dead spots, shadows and cold feeling areas to re light if you will. Many of these areas will be to one side or another of a wall or a large piece of furniture such as a couch or book shelf.
The tip here is to begin by having one home lighting source approximately every ten feet or so to start aligning your coverage’s. Then walk around the room looking behind and to the sides of couches or other large pieces. You can then start maneuvering your lamps whether floor lamps or table lamps to fill in those dead spots where you found the shadows. Once you have all angles properly illuminated then you can go on to the next phase.
Avoiding the dreaded glare. There is no need to hire a lighting expert at all, especially not in this economy when you can do all this in just a few minutes and save a few thousand. The dreaded glare as I may have hammed up a bit really can be a major deterrent in your enjoyment of a room and a real nuisance to your guests.
Any time you sit in any position in any of your furniture pieces you should not have any glare or direct non diffused light shining right dead into your eyes. This is what I was referring to as ‘the dreaded glare’.
So, how do you solve this little challenge? Easy, you turn on one light at a time and sit in each of the furniture positions around that light or lamp and look at it from those heights, if its glaring at you then either adjust the lighting fixtures height, lower the lamp shade or trade out that light for one of the right height or the right lamp shade until the glare is gone.
You then simply rinse and repeat (do it over and over) with each of your lighting pieces until you can sit comfortably in any chair in the room with zero glare or discomfort. Your mood, your outlook and your guests will thank you.
Have an illuminating day!
And Happy home lighting.

Crystal Table Lamps can really ad a sparkle to your home if you use them right.
Crystal Lamps have some serious advantages over their competing table lamps in that only they add that touch of glamor and sophistication to your home that none other can provide, the right set can be amazing!
There are of course many kinds of crystal table lamps that you can choose from. Some of the tips that we feel you will want to know before you make your lamp purchase are laid out for you below.
One of the top tips we feel is important is if you’re going for any sense of sophistication at all then stay away from the illuminating interior lamps. They are those that have a light inside the crystal portion and not under the lamp shade area. Sure they can be alluring for the moment but they just won’t speak class act for any length of time into the future.
Also avoid the reverse pyramid style crystal or glass table lamps like the plague. They are the ones that you have seen where they have triangle shaped bases like a pyramid but are inverted so that the point is facing downwards. The reason here is they collect dust like they were made for the job. Crystal lamps have been known to show dust badly when illuminated, they are just one of those types of lights. I am quite sure you have enough work to do each day and don’t need to add a daily lamp polishing to your to do list.
Be sure and lift the lamp off the table completely before spraying any kind of oily or shiny dusting solution. Those dusting sprays will adhere to the crystal and cause a buildup that will take a special effort to remove. Plus if anyone so much as touches the lamps with their bare hands the finger prints they will leave in the spray buildup are quite unsightly.
When buying crystal table lamps in particular be sure to do a lot of shopping at different online lamp stores and save to favorites all the top finds and then you can open multiple screens later and compare them side by side to make your final selection.
After the above tips it really comes down to personal tastes. Many newer lamps really fit it well when you’re going for modern contemporary interior designs that keep your home following the latest trends. However that being said, we feel that there is nothing like a really good crystal lamp well set into a classic interior design that says top shelf in quite the same way.
We hope to have been of service to you in your table lamp search and that you find exactly what you’re looking for. Please feel free to visit any of our other pages on this site and we hope you have a fantastic day!

The Lava lamp is a very cool and easy to understand invention that has thrilled millions with its ingeniously simple design.
The Lava lamp also called the Astro lamp has a basically standard light bulb in the base for illumination and more importantly heat. You will find most of the bulbs to be only in the 60 watt range but end up supplying ample heat to cause the reaction.
The process is really simple. You basically have a glass fixture/jar/tube full of colored water and a wax that is only slightly more dense at room temperature than the water. It’s density of course makes it heavier than the water and so it sinks.
When a small amount of heat is applied over usually 30 to 45 minutes the warmed wax begins to expand and it’s density becomes less that the water it’s in and so it rises to the surface. In contrast as it cools it begins to regain its density and falls back to the bottom. There waiting at the bottom is a metal coil much like a filament that serves to break the surface tension if the wax and allows it to remix or somewhat re blend if you will with the other wax at the bottom.
Because it heats at the bottom and cools at the top the cycle simply repeats itself again and again until the temperature disparity (the heat source) is removed.
Lava lamps or Astro lamps can really add a lot to the decor of a room that you are wanting to go either ultra contemporary or retro. Yes that sounds like an oxymoron but let us explain.
If you’re going retro then and the era is the 60′s or anything all the way through the 80′s a Lava lamp will be just the ticket to finish off your overall look. Just don’t forget the hanging macramé (just kidding, now there’s one we hope never comes back into style, whoa).
Now then, if you’re decorating your home in ultra contemporary lighting style then using a lamp style or even a rug or furniture piece from a retro era in the mix so long as it blends well can really signify that you know what you’re doing and you did it on purpose.
Many of today’s top interior designers for lighting especially will use a modern looking but 100% retro lighting piece and many times a lamp if they can get it to really tie the look together. It makes perfect sense if you think about it. You have scoop chairs, strait edge furniture good use of color and a colorful set of lamps that set a mood when you turn them on.
Lamps can really set the mood of an entire room. If you have bright overhead neon lights you really aren’t taken to the mood of say nice slow music with a little saxophone thrown in. But when the lights are dimed and diffused so they simply glow and there’s a warm fire gently crackling in the fireplace then some soft smooth jazz as an example will set the mood for well you know other stuff.
We hope our lamps information has helped and please feel free to visit the rest of our lighting site, we hope you have a wonderful day!
